Privacy Policy — ScrnCap

ScrnCap (“the extension”) is a screenshot tool that runs inside your web browser. Capturing, annotating and exporting always happen on your own device: the free capture path never sends a single network request, and no image data ever reaches our servers. Pro features are unlocked with an optional account on scrncap.xeviora.com — that account is the only part of ScrnCap that talks to a server, and everything it exchanges is listed below.

Data we collect

No image data, ever. ScrnCap does not collect, store on any server, transmit, share, or sell your screenshots, their content, or your browsing history. Every screenshot you take is captured, annotated, and exported locally on your own device, and settings stay in the standard extension storage on your machine. There is no analytics and no telemetry. If you choose to create an account, we hold your email address and your Pro entitlement — nothing else, and never anything you capture. See Accounts, Pro features and payments below.

Accounts, Pro features and payments

Pro features — beautified exports, URL-list batch capture with your own watermark, smart full-page capture and re-editable .scrncap project files — are computed entirely in your browser too: every pixel is composed on your own machine and no image ever reaches a server. What they do need is an account, so the extension has to ask our site who you are:

• If you never sign in, the extension makes no network requests at all. The first request only ever follows an explicit action from you — opening the sign-in page or restoring a purchase.
• Once you are signed in, the extension sends your site cookie to https://scrncap.xeviora.com/api/ext/entitlement and receives back your email address, your plan, its expiry date, and how many of your free Pro exports remain. That answer is cached locally for 24 hours.
• When a Pro feature uses one of your free Pro exports, the extension reports a count and nothing else to https://scrncap.xeviora.com/api/ext/quota/consume, so the balance stays right across your devices. No screenshot, no page URL and no page content is ever included.
• Your account lives on scrncap.xeviora.com. Payments are handled by Paddle, our merchant of record — we never see or store your card details.

Permissions and why they are needed

• activeTab — Grants one-time access to the current tab only when you trigger a capture, so its pixels can be read for the screenshot.
• scripting — Injects the measurement, scrolling, and selection-overlay helpers into the page on demand during a capture. ScrnCap does not run a persistent content script.
• tabs — Reads tab titles/URLs and switches the active tab when you batch-capture several open tabs in sequence.
• storage — Persists your settings and hands the captured image to the local preview/editor page.
• unlimitedStorage — Lets large full-page or batch captures be held locally without hitting the small default storage quota.
• contextMenus — Adds right-click capture entries on the page.
• downloads — Saves the exported image or PDF to your Downloads folder.
• Host access (<all_urls>) — Required so capture (and the capture helpers) can work on whatever page you are on; full-page, region, and fixed-size modes need to read and scroll the current page. Access happens only when you start a capture.

Remote code

ScrnCap does not load or execute any remote code. All JavaScript and WebAssembly are bundled in the extension package.
