Privacy Policy — QR Studio
Last updated: 2026-06-28
QR Studio (“the extension”) is designed to be 100% local and private. This policy explains exactly what the extension does and does not do with your information.
Summary
QR Studio does not collect, store remotely, sell, or transmit any personal data. All QR code generation and scanning happens entirely on your device. The extension makes no business network requests, contains no analytics or tracking, and requires no account.
What we collect
Nothing. The extension does not gather analytics, telemetry, usage statistics, identifiers, or any personal information, and it sends nothing to us or to any third party.
Data stored on your device
To provide its features, QR Studio saves the following only in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local), on your own computer:
- Your generation and scan history (the content you encode or decode).
- Your saved style templates.
- Your settings (theme, history limit, and related preferences).
This data never leaves your browser. You can clear your history at any time from the extension's settings, and you can export or import it yourself as a JSON file that stays on your device.
Permissions and why they are needed
The extension requests the minimum permissions required for its features:
- activeTab — Reads the current tab's URL (only when you open the popup) to pre-fill a QR code, and captures the visible tab when you choose full-page scanning. Limited to the tab you explicitly acted on.
- contextMenus — Adds right-click menu items so you can generate a QR for the current page, link or selected text, or scan a QR code inside an image.
- storage — Saves your history, style templates and settings locally on your device.
- unlimitedStorage — Allows a larger local history and template library without hitting the default storage quota. Still entirely local.
- scripting — Injects a small result overlay on demand (only when you scan an image via the right-click menu) to display the decoded value on the page.
The extension does not request host_permissions, broad site access, tabs, or downloads.
Third parties
There are no third-party services, SDKs, analytics providers, or remote APIs integrated into the extension.
Children's privacy
The extension collects no data from anyone, including children.
